You won’t find nightlife or density here — just winding roads, custom homes, and a strong sense of seclusion. Living in West Lake Hills means choosing tranquility and top-tier quality of life, albeit one with a very high price tag.

You won’t see high-rises or strip malls in West Lake Hills — and that’s exactly the point. This is low-density, high-comfort hill country living just 10–15 minutes from downtown Austin. Residents spend their weekends hiking nearby Barton Creek trails, paddleboarding on Lake Austin, or relaxing in their backyards with a view.

It’s a car-dependent lifestyle, but the tradeoff is space, silence, and proximity to everything that makes Austin fun without living in the thick of it. Shopping and dining options are close (via Bee Cave or downtown), but you’ll likely spend most of your downtime right at home.

West Lake Hills is part of the Eanes Independent School District, consistently ranked among the top in Texas and nationally. Westlake High School is particularly well-known for its academics, arts, and athletics.

The school district is one of the biggest reasons families move here, even if they could find cheaper homes elsewhere in the metro. These are top-rated public schools with private school-level resources.

If you're relocating to Austin and are up for the fanciest spot in town, one with nature and prestige, elite schools, and easy downtown access, West Lake Hills is unmatched. It’s not for bargain hunters, but if you’re looking to invest in lifestyle, school quality, and long-term property value, there are few better choices in Central Texas.

West Lake is a great place for children to grow up, it is extreamly safe and hosts a neighborly and friendly enviornment. Because it is a suburb, anyone who is not a school aged child or a parent will not have every necessary rescorce at their fingertips, but it's premium location adjacent to the city of Austin makes it possible to find all services within a twenty minute drive. The houses are a combination of modern and contemporary houses, as well as classic Texas ranch style homes. Overall, when one decides to purchase a house, they are paying for the location and acess to top tier public schools, not the quality of the house itself. Speaking of schools, Westlake High School is one of the best high schools in Texas, with amazing teachers and sports teams, and sets it's students up for sucsess in life and higher education. Overall, this town is not very diverse. It is primarily wealthy, white people, and does not provide many services for racial minorities.
