Clemmons is a safe “outside the city” suburb of Winston. If you can afford a home there I’d go for it, its value is expected to increase as Winston grows and young professionals keep moving in. I’m also seeing it’s a good school district too.

I live in Clemmons but am not a POC, so I can’t really speak to that aspect. The area is definitely suburban, Lewisville has a more walkable “downtown”, although it isn’t more than a few blocks. Tanglewood park in Clemmons is very nice and has several areas for walking and a small botanical garden.

The area is predominantly conservative and white. It does seem to be slowly diversifying.

If you want family space and amenities and a nice home at that budget look at Clemmons or Kernersville. If you are ok being more rural then you can get a nice place with some land outside the city (rural hall, stokes county). Within city limits is insane. Ardmore, west Salem, Waugh town are all very family friendly but the prices went wild during Covid and are still high. Some reasonable rentals in those areas but you said you’re looking to buy.
