Best Neighborhoods in Wilmington, North Carolina
Wilmington's historic neighborhoods tell several different versions of the city's story. Downtown's old residential streets sit close to the Cape Fear River and its busy riverfront. Carolina Place and Carolina Heights grew as early suburbs, with older houses and a more residential street pattern. South of downtown, Sunset Park has its own planned-community history and plenty of bungalow-era architecture.
A downtown address can put restaurants and the Riverwalk within reach, but visitors and event traffic are part of the bargain. In Carolina Place or Carolina Heights, pay attention to the condition of older homes and whether a property falls within a local historic district. Sunset Park offers a different relationship to the center, so test the drive you would actually make. With water shaping so much of Wilmington, check flood and storm exposure at the property level.
