What's it like to live in Round Rock?

I just moved last year and it’s been a good experience. I lived in Ventura County.

There’s definitely a change in everything, but as long as you’re in the mindset of adapting to the Texan lifestyle you’ll be good.

I like the outdoors more here than in Cali, but sometimes I miss driving up the 101 to Santa Barbara. However, I’ve been impressed with the Texas nature and beautiful sunsets.

We speak Spanish at home, and we were a bit concerned with the bilingual curriculum for our 7 year old. She was used to classes in English and she was placed in a bilingual class. At the end, it was a good decision, her English and Spanish improved a lot and she was happy to have more friends that also spoke Spanish, even though they all speak English among them.

The heat? It’s hard at first, but is not that bad as long as you have AC in your house. And it’s not all the time. We have extreme weather changes sometimes, but you learn to live with that. Personally, I like the weather here.

Anyway, it’s a big change, but it’s a nice place to live.

And people are very friendly and there’s a lot of diversity.

Consider whether you’d prefer to live in city limits or outside of city limits. There are areas of Round Rock (like Brushy Creek) that are outside of the city limits but still considered Round Rock. It just means that the address is Round Rock but all the utilities and emergency services are done through a MUD or Williamson County.

Round Rock has a really great fire department and the police are usually pretty quiet. The city of Round Rock doesn’t have their own ambulance service, so the county’s EMS responds with RRFD. This doesn’t change response times but sometimes there will be a jurisdiction issue with the fire departments.

The Brushy Creek area has lots of parks and trails. There are some very nice neighborhoods over by Old Settlers Park.

Good luck with your move!

I lived here for years. It's a great place to live, safe and diverse, although the traffic is getting worse (especially 35). The grocery store most people use is called HEB. There are so many shops and restaurants, and several medical offices and hospitals. Good luck with your move!
