LookyLOO Review of Lakeway

Hill Country Views, Lakefront Living, and Luxury Suburb Vibes

Lakeway is where the Austin suburbs start to feel like a resort. Tucked into the western edge of the metro near Lake Travis, Lakeway is all about views, upscale homes, and a lifestyle that leans into water, golf, and nature. It’s one of the most affluent communities in the region—and you can feel that in everything from the home prices to the private tennis clubs and scenic drives through the hills.

But for all its polish, Lakeway still has a welcoming, low-key charm. It’s full of families, retirees, and remote workers who don’t need to be in downtown Austin every day. And while the drive into the city can be long (especially at rush hour), a lot of people move here specifically to not deal with the city grind.

It’s not a walkable town, and if you’re looking for urban amenities, you’ll have to drive for them. But if you want quiet luxury with a strong community and incredible access to the outdoors, Lakeway is hard to beat.

Lifestyle in Lakeway

Boat Days, Golf Carts, and Sunset Views

This is a lifestyle suburb—built around Lake Travis, golf courses, and natural beauty. Residents boat, paddleboard, hike, and bike right from their neighborhoods. Marinas dot the shoreline, and several communities have private lake access or boat ramps. The Lakeway Resort & Spa is a hub for events and staycations, and golf lovers will find multiple courses within minutes.

There’s a surprisingly active dining scene for a small town, with wine bars, coffee shops, breweries, and local restaurants catering to year-round residents and weekenders alike.

The community vibe is tight. You’ll find holiday parades, community swim teams, youth sports leagues, and plenty of “golf cart life” happening within the neighborhoods.

Schools in Lakeway

Top-Tier Education in LTISD

Lakeway is served by Lake Travis ISD, one of the highest-rated districts in Central Texas. It consistently scores an “A” from Niche.com and is known for strong academics, arts, and athletics. The district has grown quickly, but maintains small-school charm with newer facilities and high parental involvement.

Standout schools include:

Lakeway Elementary: A-rated, top performance scores, and loved by local families.

Lake Travis High School: Competitive in academics and athletics, with strong college prep programs.

Families move to Lakeway specifically for the schools, and homes in the district tend to hold value very well.

Why You Should Move Here Now

Luxury Lake Life Without Leaving the Metro

If you’re craving a slower, quieter, and more beautiful lake-centric/watersport lifestyle—but still want access to city amenities when needed—Lakeway is your best option. It’s ideal for those who work remotely or don’t mind a longer commute in exchange for stunning hill country views, lake access, and one of the most desirable school districts in the state.

I have access to a vacation home in old Lakeway and go boating from there a lot. walking around in the neighborhood even without sidewalks is fine. lakeway police are strict (nothing else to do) so even boomers hauling their boats through will get a ticket for going 5 over

hamilton greenbelt and canyonlands are pretty good for a mild hike. lakeway city park isn't bad either. but you don't want to walk to anything outside of the neighborhood so don't head to anything on or near 620

lakeway market is great and sometimes people drink at the handful of barstools inside. The grille at rough hollow is a good restaurant with a decent bar. there are also nice sidewalks leading through the hills to it (at least when you get close). lakeway spa and resort has a lobby bar full of people you probably don't want to know

if you request a rideshare from deep within lakeway be prepared to wait and have them cancel but getting back from the real world is easy

I'm less familiar with the hill country galleria that others have been mentioned but it seems like a large outdoor strip center / mall
