What's it like to live in Hutto?

Hi! Husband and I have lived here for three years now— just long enough to give you our impressions, but not long enough to be able to make this decision for you by a long shot.
The good: Hutto is adorable. The local businesses that are here are very charming, and I always find myself wanting to support them. They have cute little festivals that are more or less little arts and crafts fairs, but they’d be wonderful entertainment for your little one. Hutto is growing quite a lot, and there will be a lot of new developments to enjoy in the next few years as well.
The bad: Small town politics. The mayor is always picking facebook fights with city council members (or ex-city council members…) and calling it being transparent. The constable who was up for reelection set up IN the voting line to pass out info and take pictures with voters. It’s very much a good ol’ boys club over here. As a result, I have a hard time speaking to a “respectful and inclusive environment.” Nothing is overt, and I don’t have a kid in schools here, but my gut says that I’m not sure Hutto will be as inclusive as Round Rock. Our local gov has been accused of racism more than once.

I moved from Houston area to Pflugerville in fall 2017 then purchased a house in Hutto in 2018.
I really like Hutto. It's grown a ton since I moved here, but it still has the smaller town charm. They have really nice festivities. The fourth of July celebration at the amphitheater, olde tyme days, crawfish festival etc.
Love the concrete hippos, giving the town a unique identity.
I have a 4 year old, abd she'll be attending Howard Norman elementary this fall. The town has a nice and safe feeling. Like most of CTX the infrastructure is behind the growth, in terms of roads.
If you live on the north side there is no grocery store in Hutto North of 79. The HEB plus is on 130. I moved to the southern side of town for the proximity to everything and quick access to highways etc.
Hutto is typically getting more commercial/retail. IMAX movie theater and arcade, bowling Alley opens later this year. Jack Allen's, Chuy's, and more are doing the same. So we can finally spend some of our sales tax in town.

Hutto is nice. It is growing like crazy, lots of new homes being built. Home prices have definitely gone up, like everywhere, but not as high as Austin. There is a sense of community in Hutto though still. The location is convenient to get around with 130 being right here.
Water is expensive and nasty tasting. We fill bottles of water.
Schools are good and really try hard. I work for Hutto ISD and it is a good community feel for the school district. The staff care and want to help all students. Students have a lot of opportunities for various activities and interests.
