It's Juuuuuust Right
A lot of what people seem to love about Glendale smacks of Goldilocks. It’s small enough to avoid big city problems but big enough for a robust economy and commercial scene to make it a fun and viable place to live. It’s physically separate from LA, so it avoids that whole madness, but it’s just ten miles north, so traffic notwithstanding (which it never is), you can enjoy it with a short drive. Perhaps even better, you’re right next to Griffith Park, the Verdugo Mountains, the San Gabriel Mountains, and the Angeles National Forest. Again, it’s just right for accessing so much of what SoCal has to offer.
On the downside, the only way Glendale housing prices won’t seem insane is if you’re coming from San Francisco, NYC, or some other overpriced city. The median home price is over $1m, so buckle up, if you’re looking to buy and aren’t flush, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
Lifestyle in Glendale, CA
As was noted, Glendale borders some amazing outdoor places, including 90 minutes to skiing and tons of hills and mountains for hiking and biking, of course, you can head to the beach, so if you’re into that outdoor thing, you like it here. It’s more suburban than urban, but it does have the Americana and the Galleria - giant California malls with pretty much everything inside, as well as some nightlife on Brand Blvd. Most people come here for the chill and take advantage of what’s nearby.

We highly recommend visiting Glendale and staying in the community in a VRBO rather than a hotel to get a feel for what it's like to live among the locals. You can receive discounted fares on travel via our partnership with Expedia as well.
Worklife in Glendale, CA
For its size, Glendale is a pretty amazing place for business. Food giant Nestle is here, as is IHOP and Avery Denison (packaging). You’ve also got big players in entertainment with DreamWorks Animation and several Disney groups: Imagineering, Consumer Products, Disney Interactive, the Muppets Studio, and Marvel Animation Studios. You have a pretty good shot at living AND working in Glendale.
Why You Should Move Here Now?
If you are going to be a work-from-homer (or your job will be in Glendale), and you want to enjoy the Southern California sunshine in a beautiful suburb near every kind of experience you could imagine then Glendale is it. We only qualify about that job thing because as we hope you know, don’t set yourself up for a commute. It just ain’t worth it.

I spent 20 years living in Hollywood. While it started out fine, sadly I watched the neighborhood, building, and community deteriorate to the point where it began to have a negative effect on my mental health. After discovering Glendale through friends and work, and spending lots of time here, I fell in love. Glendale offers similar proximity to all of the things I've grown to enjoy with none of the negatives that were driving me mad. Glendale is cleaner, quieter, and feels more family friendly. Glendale is surrounded by natural beauty, is close to some great motorcycle roads, and has nice malls, movie theaters, parks, and restaurants. I like having the ability to find parking when going out or visiting a friend, and I like that Glendale is its own city and has its own resources. Last not least -- Cafe Bravo is delicious.

Glendale is largely suburban and family-oriented, but if you’re looking to live here, then you’ll start your search Downtown. The Americana is here, an amazing California mall (plenty of it is outdoors), and it has too many restaurants to name (it does have a Shake Shack), shops and cafes, and a massive movie theater. You can also find upscale dining and drinking along Brand Boulevard. It’s unlikely this will be the epicenter of your social life, but it has enough to get you by when you aren’t exploring LA.
