What's it like to live in Hoboken?

I grew up there. It's a fun town. Lots of great restaurants. Surprisingly good education system.

Great place to rent. Very expensive to buy and also very unappealing from this standpoint:

It floods constantly as a good portion is under sea level. It also is still dealing with the fact that some of its sewers are made out of wood.

It has absolutely horrid unseen infrastructure. Water mains break rather regularly and flooding and sinkholes are issues in Hoboken.

Much of the cheaper rental units are painted over moldy trash by slumlords who remain slumlords despite getting $3K/month in rent.

The old brownstones are really beat up, but also unfortunately the only affordable rental units.

Hoboken is cool to hang out in, but there are some real quiet gems in Hudson county with cheaper rents and still within a $15 Uber ride of Hoboken's downtown.

Hoboken has always been a convenient and nice outskirt city. Having lived here 10+ years, there has undoubtedly been a change in the friendliness and charm to Washington Street—not for the better. Some real issues posted in here by residents who are concerned about their neighborhoods. Regardless, still a vibrant place with solid nightlife options and incredible views.

I always wanted to be in NYC and did live there post grad for a little. I needed a car for work so I moved to Hoboken. Best decision ever. Cleaner and much more mellow than NYC. Path gets you anywhere you want in the city so easy. I have a yard and a spacious apartment for less than I could ever get a closet in NYC. 10/10
