Fishers is becoming a big city. It is still lovely, clean, low crime…but it is quickly becoming unaffordable (the house we built in 2009 is now worth more than twice the amount). The school systems are still top tier but the new school board is quickly working to dismantle it. It is a hot bed of politics.

Carmel is nice but also very expensive. Of course, I don’t know how either of them compare to the west coast. Carmel is more established in who it is, so while they do continue to develop land, they maintain who they are, it seems.

I like could not be happier with what HSE schools has given my typical child but the services for neurodivergence is not up to par, or at least not consistent. Elementary was a hot mess but intermediate was good.

In Fishers, you have a ton of really awesome parks and two public beaches. In Carmel, they have great parks but they don’t feel as inviting. While there is hardly any diversity in either city, you get a bit more in Fishers.

Both cities have great food, breweries, and fun activities to do and both are close enough to Indy to get out.

We moved to Fishers from the west coast (Oregon) last year. We made the move because we had a young daughter and wanted a house and it was affordable for us. There is a good amount to do for families. Between the libraries, museums, and parks in the surrounding towns and Indy there are lots of classes and events for young kids. My wife and daughter are constantly out and about. Population is somewhat diverse. Politics aren't as extreme as the rest of the state but there are things happening here at least in the libraries. It's very suburban and developed, there's no character. Plenty of shopping and dining options around but nothing super special. However, we still feel like overall it's a decent place to live.

My wife and I moved to Fishers from Orange County California.

We love Fishers because of the cost of living (expensive for Indiana, but still very cheap compared to most of the US), schools are awesome, the town is exploding with tons of new things coming in, which help with the things we liked the least.

The biggest thing for us was the lack of diversity here...diversity of people or diversity of thought. Most of the restaurants are chains and unoriginal, but this is starting to change with all of the new development happening. The rest of Indiana often thinks you are rich just for living in Fishers or Carmel.

Fishers is today where Carmel was 10 years ago as the suburb exploding. Westfield is getting there as well. You honestly can't go wrong on the northside.
