I’m moving to Las Vegas, NV this summer. Any suggestions on the best surrounding cities to reside in?

There are many great communities in Las Vegas. I’ll name a few in no particular order. Summerlin, Spring Valley, Desert Shores, Los Prados, Green Valley/Henderson, Anthem, North Las Vegas, Rhodes Ranch, Boulder City, Logandale/ Overton ( 65 miles North East of Las Vegas). No doubt I’ve probably left a few communities out.

Every community has their pros and cons. Finding the right community for you is dependent on your needs and pocket book. Spend a few days touring the different communities, and find one that fits your needs. I did the very same thing in 1991, and settled in the North West part of the Las Vegas Valley, and love every minute of it. You couldn’t ask for a better city to live in.

Surrounding “cities” would be Henderson, North Las Vegas and Boulder City.

Henderson: I’d look at the Green Valley area or any of the newer areas.

North Las Vegas: Aliante area.

Boulder City is very nice but quite closed as they don’t allow much new development.

Las Vegas has very nice areas, mostly toward the edges of town… Summerlin, Southern Highlands, The Lakes, Spring Valley, Desert Shores. Even downtown has some nice new or newly renovated buildings if you like urban living. Near “The Strip” has many condo type high rise buildings that are extremely nice. I live in the Northwest part of Las Vegas that I find very pleasant.

Most of the Las Vegas valley is “nice”. A quick drive through an area and it will be obvious whether you would want to live there or not. The valley is mostly suburban living except “Downtown” and along “The Strip” corridor.

What is the general reputation of the Spring valley and enterprise areas?

I’ve lived in both. No one ever talks about them. No reputation that I hear discussed.

My experience is that it’s a lot of middle to low income people of diverse backgrounds. Many who work the strip and these are good locations for getting to work quickly while still being safe neighborhoods. I’ve enjoyed living in both. It does have not so great hotspots but I never had to deal with anything too uncomfortable.

Moving to Spring Valley Area

You're gonna be really close to Chinatown, which has tons of amazing food options.

As for safety, since it's kind of an older part of town, you'll find that general "safety" varies dramatically from block to block. I wouldn't really be able to name specific areas though. Maybe the neighborhood just north of Flamingo and Lindell. That area seems pretty safe.
