LookyLOO Review of Living in New Rochelle

New Roc City

New Rochelle sits in southern Westchester County, just 20 miles from Midtown Manhattan, and is a mix of traditional suburban living and urban center. It’s a city in its own right, more diverse and densely populated than many neighboring towns, yet still offers leafy neighborhoods and waterfront parks.

Its Metro-North station puts you in Grand Central in under 40 minutes, making it a top choice for commuters who want more space than NYC provides without losing access to city life. New Rochelle’s revitalized downtown has new apartment buildings and growing cultural venues, increasingly giving the city a fresher vibe.

Worklife in New Rochelle

New Roc City

Most residents commute to NYC or nearby Westchester job hubs like White Plains and Yonkers. The Metro-North New Haven Line offers frequent service to Manhattan, and I-95, the Hutchinson River Parkway, and the Bronx River Parkway make car commuting pretty simple.

Some residents work locally in healthcare, education, retail, and small businesses, while there are plenty of remote workers taking advantage of the suburban amenities but staying close enough to Manhattan for runs into the big city.

We live in NR near a beautiful lake with nature trails for walking the dog right nearby. Our surrounding neighborhoods are beautiful. Like many towns, there are nice areas and not so nice areas. We are quite happy to be in NR. We moved here from nearby Larchmont, where we had an smaller, less attractive house on a tiny parcel for the nearly the same money as a much nicer, grander one here in NR. NB: our kids are all in private schools - but they would be even if we still lived in a Larchmont. I would definitely encourage people who want more house and space for their money to take a good look at NR.
