What's it like to live in Nags Head?

My family moved Nags Head in October. We have a 2 year old and one on the way. We’re building a house and are financially stable for a younger family.

We absolutely love it here. It’s very quiet and a slower pace of life - but that’s exactly what we wanted. There are endless outdoor activities, a few indoor. But there is a strong community of young families down here.

I’d really recommend looking in Nags head to live! You’re central to most grocery stores, beaches are great, restaurants are here. I would not want to live any further south with children, it’s very remote and quite a drive to everything.

As far as doctors, there is a pediatrician on the island that’s awesome and urgent cares that can take care of any acute needs. It hasn’t been an issue for as as a younger, healthy family. Good luck!!

The main problem you'll find is housing. Nobody wants to rent their house to you for $2500/month when they can get $2500/week as a vacation rental for 3-4 months. Next will be finding a job. You can easily find a job, but finding one that will let you pay $2500/month in rent might be tricky.

As far as going to the mainland, we take trip to Virginia to hit Sams Club every couple months. It's a bit of a production since it's at least an hour away.

It's a great place to live for some people. It's not an easy place to live.

You’ll be able to find a place for less than 2,500/a month. New apartment building just opened up and they are building another one in the next year or two. The rent is like 1,500 for a 1BR.

I would caution against moving here alone as a sober 25 year old only because it might be hard meeting people outside of the bar scene unless you surf or fish or play disc golf. It’s a good place to live though I’m 29 and moved here by myself 10 years ago and I really enjoy it.
