Living in Dunwoody, GA
Dunwoody scores high on quality of life for families. It's filled with suburban comfort and amenities, but is also close enough to Atlanta for nights out and tolerable commuting. It's been pure suburban for many years but the Dunwoody Village and Perimeter Mall and business district are giving the city a more "city vibe". Commute options include MARTA rail and proximity to I-285 and GA-400.
Lifestyle in Dunwoody
Dunwoody is suburban with a modern twist. Much of the city features tree-lined streets and master-planned neighborhoods, with parks and green spaces aplenty for the kiddos and doggos to play. This suburban lifestyle, which is a draw for families, is supplemented now with commercial spaces at Perimeter Center—a hub for dining, retail, and nightlife. Parks like the Dunwoody Nature Center provide green escapes. Active families take advantage of the robust community rec programs. And weekend farmers markets, and many trail systems get the locals out in community and family settings.

Worklife in Dunwoody
Dunwoody has a surprisingly solid job market for a classic suburb. Opportunities exist in healthcare, finance, and tech along the Perimeter corridor. Major employers include Cumberland-based corporations and large medical campuses, including Perimeter College campus of Georgia State University. Transit access via MARTA makes commuting to Midtown or Buckhead easier. For others, the hidden benefit is less outward commuting than you’d expect from a north-Atlanta suburb.
Schools in Dunwoody
Dunwoody is part of the DeKalb County school district. The DeKalb school district receives a "B-" on niche.com, but the schools in Dunwoody are among the highest rated, receiving "A" and "A-" grades.
Highly rated public schools within DeKalb County include Austin Elementary, Peachtree Middle, and Dunwoody High—plus reputable private options. School rankings tend to outperform the metro average, making it a top draw for families.

I grew up in Dunwoody and my parents still live in our same house. I love Dunwoody! It was a wonderful place to grow up and it’s gotten even better! Vanderlyn and Austin are both great elementary schools. People are very friendly. I had a very happy childhood with neighborhood pools, parks, and activities. Yes, there will be traffic on 285. But like someone else said, there are so many cut-through streets that I can get somewhere 5 different ways and avoid traffic. It is a very family-friendly place! Brook Run Park, Dunwoody Nature Center, the Chattahoochee River, Murphy Candler Park (sports), and Dunwoody Village are all great! You will be very happy living in Dunwoody! 😊
