LookyLOO Review of Davison
Genesee County towns have a strong outdoor culture and Davison’s right in the thick of it. Locals care very much about spending time outside and enjoying the parks, lakes, hiking trails, and golf courses.
The downtown is small, but for a town of just 5,000, it’s got a few solid spots for food and cocktails. That said, if you’re living in Davison, it’s not for the nightlife. People come here for the close-knit, family-friendly vibe, the charm of a small town, and all the natural spots that make it easy to get outdoors. And with affordable housing and a low cost of living, it's a pretty sweet deal.
Lifestyle
As noted, people in Davison are focused on two things: their families and the outdoors.
Families get to enjoy great parks (yes, that's outdoor stuff also), like:
Jack Abernathy Regional Park is filled with walking trails, picnic areas baseball/softball fields, soccer fields, basketball and more.
Richfield County Park has kayaking, fishing, and beautiful hiking trails. One of the bigger options in all of Genesee County.
Black Creek Nature Trail is an amazing route for walking, biking and running that connects the city for those just looking for a daily walk or spin around town.
In addition to the parks and nature options, there is also wonderful golf at the Davison Country Club. In addition to the golf, this facility is also host to one of the better gyms in the county, Davison Athletic Club. Adults and the kiddos can enjoy elements of the club including extensive workout equipment and fitness and recreational swimming at the club pool.
Downtown Davison has a few family-friendly dining options like:
Belva Bar & Restaurant: Italian and American fare and serious cocktails.
Md's Sports Tavern: offering BBQ, Pizza, Burgers, Sandwiches, and lots of options for the kiddos.
Davison also has a summer farmer's market, which feels consistent with the type of smaller, community-focused events the city is known for.
Schools
Davison Public Schools is the town's school district and receives a "B+" on niche.com. The schools receive very high scores for the quality of the Teachers and the Clubs & Activities offered. Pretty rare for a district this small.
The district has several elementary schools, an intermediate school for 5-6 grades, a middle school for 7-8, and a high school, Davison High, for 9-12.
There is also a popular faith-based school called Faith Baptist School, that serves pre-k up through 12th grade.

Davison is a really nice place to stay. Very safe, walkable downton/main street area. The only thing that you might have to worry about is harassment by the police if you are a minority. I moved here from flint a few years ago, and got pulled over, taken to the police station about every month until they realized I was a resident. I still currently live here, and I find it a really good place to live in MId MIchigan.
If you are looking for good priced places to stay, there are Windsor place apartments for about 450 a month, Charter Oaks for about 400-450 a month, and various mobile home parks that are even cheaper. I live in a mobile home right now for 250 a month, which will go up to 450 after a year.
It will take you about a 10-15 min drive to get to downtown flint from davison, so its a really nice close by suburb to stay in.
