No idea on jobs, but the people are pretty solid in my opinion.

It’s Wyoming, and you’re at a junction of 2 major freeways.

Couple notes that are just my opinion, Wyoming seems like a whole state of people just trying to be left alone to live their lives, never had any problems with anyone, even those of differing opinion. After living in Cali for about 30yrs youre in for a pleasant shock (minus wind).

**The Best Thing About Cheyenne?** Wide Open Spaces

As with most big and small cities Downtown is the place to live for Young Professionals. The biggest benefit: a walk to bars and restaurants. In addition to the densest concentration of good grub and drinks Downtown also hosts art walks, weekend events, concerts and movie and performing arts theaters. Grocery shopping and some of the big box basics are missing but boutiques and galleries are available if you feel like more eclectic shopping options.

A great first stop in the search for a neighborhood for families is Saddle Ridge. Part of East Cheyenne you have plenty of local restaurants, the Cheyenne Greenway, and big shopping centers. It’s also filled with parks and walking trails to keep you and the kiddos outdoors most of the time. The homes and blocks in Saddle Ridge are a mix of older classic architecture and newer contemporary builds. Thomas Heights is another good option for new families looking for newer developed blocks and homes. Not as well known as other areas it is in the northeastern part of town but also has tons of parks, walking trails for the outdoors, and restaurants, theaters and pubs for indoor “recreation”.

I was born and raised in cheyenne and still live here. The worst traffic you’ll run into is slightly longer waits at the stoplights along main roads between 5-6pm. Its a cold climate here and we get frequent winter snow but not many big blizzard storms and the snowfall doesn’t usually accumulate much, like others have said the wind is absolutely brutal and is the only thing i hate about the weather here. Job wise im not really sure, but in generally iv found the people here to be pleasant, although most dont care for outsiders or anyone moving here. Theres not much to do in town aside from your usual small town activities, bars, movies, bowling etc, but if youre an outdoor person like myself its a pretty nice location, curt gowdy state park west of town is a nice place for fishing/camping/hiking, as is the snowy range just west of laramie. Denver is a roughly 2 hour drive south if you want to visit a large city or attend concerts and events. Overall its not a bad place to live imo. Its a smaller city thats within reach of both big city amenities and outdoor life, and much cheaper to live than the front range of colorado.

Adding on to what the others said, Cheyenne typically has low crime....but flash floods and severe wind can be problematic, especially in early summer late spring. I'd recommend avoiding the lowlands near "Dry" Creek. Id also recommend picking a spot to live with trees to block the wind. Icy roads and snow can be problematic too, but the major roads are always plowed and usually sanded. So try picking a spot with easy access to Storey, College, 21st, Pershing, Dell range or any other non residential road.

Ideally, you might like a place near a park or the Greenway. I recommend anything in the 82009 zip code inside city limits. West of college is also fine. You can cross from one opposite corner of town to the other in less than 25 minutes, in highest local traffic, so don't worry about your commute length.

Born and raised in Cheyenne, but I haven't lived there full time since I left for college in 1993. I still do have family and friends there that I visit a good bit. If no one else wants to chime in, I can take a stab.

It's the largest city in the state and the biggest city within 50 miles. That said, it is a small town also. There are 3 highschools now, to give you a frame of reference. Lots of people come into Cheyenne from smaller WY towns to go shopping, but Cheyenne folks go to Ft Collins or Denver for the same.

I'm sure someone has more accurate info but as I recall the major employers are city, county, & state government, the base (FE Warren Air Force) and UP Railroad. I'm sure it's just my circle, but I know a lot of people who are in education. Both of my parents, my aunt and my cousin are all elementary teachers, plus maybe 10 of my old HS friends. The education in Cheyenne is actually pretty good - WY does pay their teachers much better than a lot of other states.

Climate: high and dry. Winters can be cold - i.e. 40 below. But 60's is also feasible. Weather at altitude can be unpredictable. The only thing you can count on with absolute certainty is it will be windy. The wind NEVER stops.
