What's it like to live in Burton?

I work in Burton, I love eating at the Halo Burger on Belsay & Court. It also has a Subway attached which is nice for an alternative option. But that Halo Burger is awesome, they have the nicest cashier ever who always makes my day

I would argue that Burton really has three or four discrete communities, largely based around school district (Bendle, Bentley, Atherton and Kearsley), with their own identities. These function largely the same way as you have the wards broken down for the City of Flint.

I actually moved to Flint/Burton about 6 years ago and bought a house out here and I work downtown! I came from a small town so being somewhere more busy has been great.

The Durant is absolutely beautiful. If you can, maybe look into the homes for rent in the areas too. You are going to want to stay away from North Flint, past the river. Unfortunately, there is alot more blight and crime. It's pretty much considered the closer to south flint/burton the lower the crime. Check out trulia/zillow or even facebook marketplace for different homes for rent. Otherwise, I would look for an apartment in Grandblanc/Burton, still very close.

Yes. There is a bus system but you definitely will want a car, it's easier for our area because Flint is spread out. I live on the burton border and I'm 10 minutes from the mall, 3 different movie theaters, tons of restaurants both downtown, on miller road, linden road, hill rd. They all are in a 15 minute distance. There's the U of M rec center which has an indoor pool, racquet ball, classes every day you can take, cardio/weight lifting. Flint institute of arts offer classes and events. You can't forget the whiting and now the capitol, constantly showing amazing shows/concerts! There is an app called Meetup that is a great way to hear about groups and activities in the area but there are breweries here, museums, art exhibits, a virtual reality arcade, escape rooms, a board game/table top place - you get the idea.

If you are ok with it, stick to west Flint, college cultural area and downtown. My husband and I have lived on the westside (about a mile into the city from Flint twp) for 3 years now (with our 2 younger adult children) with very little issue.

I would also suggest Burton. You are technically out of Flint but still can find cheaper living. Burton is huge, though, and can border the not so safe areas of Flint (as can Mt. Morris). This is probably the best option if you want cheap but not in the city border. Might make your family happy.

Yes it’s pretty safe there. Kind of little city and country. Above comment is correct on the rent. 600 is what you’ll find in flint. There’s definitely better pockets of neighborhoods scattered all around the city. It’s hard to know if you don’t know kind of a thing. But yes owosso is definitely the closest you’ll get to “cheaper” outside of the city. You can try Burton, flint township before/near grand blanc, Davison, genesee township, Clio. But it’s going to be tough at that price.
