About the Program
The Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend provides an annual payment to eligible Alaska residents. The 2026 dividend is $1,200, including a $200 energy-relief payment.
The dividend is not an immediate relocation incentive. Someone who moves to Alaska cannot apply as soon as residency is established. An applicant generally must live in Alaska for an entire qualifying calendar year before applying during the following January-through-March filing period.
For example, someone who moves to Alaska during 2026 would generally not qualify for the 2027 dividend because they were not an Alaska resident for all of 2026.
Basic Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the 2026 dividend, an applicant generally must:
- Have been an Alaska resident throughout calendar year 2025
- Intend to remain an Alaska resident indefinitely when applying
- Not have claimed residency or received a residency-based benefit from another state or country since December 31, 2024
- Meet Alaska’s rules governing allowable absences
- Have been physically present in Alaska for at least 72 consecutive hours during 2024 or 2025
- Meet the program’s criminal-history eligibility requirements
Children may qualify, but a separate application must be submitted for every adult and child.
Establishing Alaska Residency
Physical presence in Alaska by itself is not sufficient. Applicants must establish and maintain ties demonstrating an intent to remain in Alaska indefinitely.
Acceptable evidence may include:
- A lease or rental agreement in the applicant’s name
- Proof of purchasing a home
- Employment records such as a W-2 or pay stub
- An Alaska driver’s license or identification card
- Alaska vehicle registration
- Alaska voter registration
- Proof that household belongings were moved to Alaska
- Moorage or harbor fees for a vessel used as a primary residence
- Qualifying State of Alaska benefits that require Alaska residency
Utility bills, bank statements and mail showing an Alaska address are not sufficient by themselves.
Application and Payment Timing
Applications are accepted from January 1 through March 31 each year. Each person must submit a separate application.
The application period for the 2026 dividend has ended. The first 2026 direct-deposit payments were scheduled for October 1, 2026, with the first paper-check distribution scheduled for October 22, 2026. Additional payments continue as applications become eligible.
