There aren’t t really unsafe parts of Torrance except maybe way over to the east where it butts up against Harbor Gateway. I’m a resident of North Torrance, which is a little more diverse and has families who’ve lived here for generations as well as lots of young families, but West and South Torrance are also very nice. Old Torrance has the most character and the cutest houses. All the schools range from good to exceptional, and you can’t go too far without hitting a park. I think you’ll like it here!

We did the same move several months ago. With two children elementary school performance and safety were the biggest reason we chose Torrance.

Torrance elementary schools are very good. I would even say one of the best in the state. I'm actually surprised people are bashing TUSD without any reference. You can fact check everything on California Department of Education website. The website shows the scores of every school in the state with tables and graphs even (6000-ish school) The website provides you with most important analytics. (math, arts and language score etc). If I remember correctly Anza had the best performance followed by Arnold and Hickory Elementary. But any TUSD school is pretty good.

A 2 bedroom place should start from 2500$ in Torrance.

Don’t live in LA, the travel time from LA to Torrance can be 1 hour for 17 miles. Torrance is great town for raising a family and having a quiet life. Lomita is nice quiet town too. Parts of Carson is rough and other parts just fine. Redondo is expensive for what it is, Lawndale can be seedy in parts, not as bad as Hawthorne. El Segundo is a quiet town between that sits between the airport, sewage treatment plant and the refinery. Manhattan and Hermosa are expensive beach towns.
