Swartz Creek, Michigan
LookyLOO Review of Swartz Creek
Swartz Creek is a small suburban town outside of Flint that is known for generations of families raising their kids (and grandkids), sending them to solid local schools, and enjoying the rural-ish peace and quiet.
Families love the large lots where the kiddos can run around or have a horse or raise chickens, and the nearly crime-free streets. Having a suburban/rural vibe just a few minutes from Flint and an hour from Detroit or Ann Arbor means you get a pretty great combination of very low housing prices and a low cost of living.
Lifestyle
The lifestyle of Swartz Creek is somewhere between suburban and rural. Many of the community activities are family-centric and school-based but there is also plenty of room to roam on the large lots where families often keep animals and live a bit more like farm towns. There is also a small downtown where plenty of events are hosted and locals can enjoy a meal a drink or a cup of coffee.
The city maintains several parks, such as Elms Park and Abrams Park, offering amenities like baseball diamonds, soccer fields, basketball courts, playgrounds, and winter sledding hills.
The city hosts events throughout the year like the Swartz Creek Hometown Days, a summertime festival with carnival rides, a zoo, games, a parade, and fireworks.
There are also sports facilities available at The Cage Fieldhouse which has basketball, volleyball, and other kiddo and grownup playtime.
Schools
Swartz Creek Community Schools receive a solid "B" rating on niche.com with an even higher score for the quality of the Teachers in the district.
The structure of the district is classic small-town suburban with four elementary schools, a single middle school, and a single high school, Swartz Creek High School. The high school is a big feeder to Michigan State University and the University of Michigan at Flint and Ann Arbor campuses.
There are also several parochial and private schools in the area including:
-Genesee Academy, an "A" rated school that serves kids from PK through grade 12.
-St Mary Queen of Angels School is a parochial PK and K-7 school, also in Swartz Creek.

A small rural town. Lived here for decades, children went to school here and now my grands do also. Very friendly and family oriented. Free movies and concerts in the park during the summer. We are a no thrill town . No tourist, just good old homegrown people who welcome Hometown day during May. If you like living near horses, cows, donkeys and all other farms animals, you will love it here. The area has many miles that created what is known as Swartz Creek. If you are in the agriculture area you will love the peace and quiet. The village homes in the city are very family friendly. Generations of families live here. We are close to major colleges FlInt and East Lansing. Be prepared to have many educated residents living around you. Michigan is school of choice. Many parents want their children to attend our schools. So if your looking for excitement you wonβt find it here .If you want a great place to raise your family with no crime to speak of, please set up your roots here.
