LookyLOO Review of Living in Sandy Springs
Sandy Springs sits just north of Atlanta, but like other notable areas of Georgia (see Buckhead or Newnan), it has a strong identity of its own. It’s an incorporated city with its own services, parks, and a legit suburban downtown. The area feels well-polished and established. The housing stock is a mix of older ranch-style homes, 80s colonials, and modern townhomes tucked into shady neighborhoods with winding roads and cul-de-sacs.
It’s a place that appeals to people who want proximity to Atlanta without the density or drama of being in the city. You’ll see high-rises along I-285 and GA-400, but most of Sandy Springs is residential and wooded. Chattahoochee River trails and neighborhood parks give it a natural, peaceful feel despite the busy roads nearby.
Sandy Springs also has major hospitals, a huge bonus for families and retirees. There are sizable corporate campuses and a long list of private schools, so that makes Sandy Springs a draw for professionals and families who want to keep commute times reasonable while still living in a quieter environment.
Lifestyle in Sandy Springs
Sandy Springs has invested in infrastructure, from sidewalks to green spaces. Making life pretty simple for families. The City Springs development gives the area a modern town center, with a performing arts venue, splash pad, restaurants, and community green space.
On weekends, you might paddleboard on the Chattahoochee River or hike at Morgan Falls Overlook Park. Sandy Springs isn’t flashy, but it’s solid. You'll find a strong civic culture and year-round, family-focused events.
Neighborhoods tend to feel tucked away even if they’re right off a major road. Residents like the balance between accessibility and calm. Shopping is easy thanks to the nearby Perimeter Center Mall and local favorites like Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, and Heirloom Market BBQ.

Northside Hospital, Emory St. Joseph’s, and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta anchor a huge medical complex in the city’s southeast. GA-400 makes it easy to get into Atlanta or up to Alpharetta and Roswell, so the city draws people who work all over the North Metro.
If you're self-employed or remote, the walkable stretch around City Springs has coworking options and good spots for a working coffee.

Lots of family stuff to do during holidays and during the year (lantern parade etc So many parks , airport is close, centrally located, we have our own police SSPD so we don’t have to deal with ATLPD. Close to downtown. Lots of restaurants with parking. Shopping is really good.

The Vibe: Riverside is quiet and leafy, with large lots (beloved by families) and mature trees draping the streets and providing shade in the toasty summers. The homes are mostly ranch-style and traditional two-stories from the '60s and '70s, many of which have been updated. It feels tucked away but not isolated. There’s a laid-back feel to the area; people walk their doggos around the blocks and to the park and benefit from being close to nature.
